Nicholas Delbanco writes a compelling account of the cello made by Stradivari. The instrument came to be known as the countess of Stanlein ex-Paganini Stradivarius of 1707. He writes of its restoration by René Morel, commissioned by Bernard Greenhouse, the musician who owned it, who is also Delbanco's father-in-law.
