With an early passion for Canadian Old Time Fiddling, Mark has also studied classical violin in order to provide him with the technique to improve his Old Time Fiddle skills as well as master several other styles including Irish, Scottish, French Canadian and many more.

As a competitive fiddler in the Canadian Fiddle Contest circuit, some of his accomplishments include:

  • 3-time Pembroke Open Champion (2003, 2002, 2001)
  • Canadian Open Fiddle Champion (2002, 2004)
  • Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion (2001, 2004, 2005)
  • Ontario Open Champion (2000, 2004)
  • Maritime Grand Champion (1998)
  • Canadian Junior Champion (1997, 1998)
In addition to competing, Mark is an active performer. As the principal fiddler for the Canadian Celtic group ‘Pulse,’ Mark performed in John McDermott’s PBS Special ‘A Time to Remember’ which has been airing since March 2002. In addition, Mark was a guest on Bravo TV’s ‘Live at the Rehearsal Hall’ with violinist Lara St. John.

In 2000, Mark was a cast member playing fiddle and acoustic guitar on the ‘Memories of a Don Messer Jubilee Christmas Tour’ and the 2001 ‘Memories of a Don Messer Jubilee western Canadian Tour.’ Also, Mark has been part of the Ontario ‘Hank Williams – The Show He Never Gave’ tour.
